WHAT CAN PSYCHOTHERAPY DO FOR ME?
My work is directed at helping people to search for and think with a deeper understanding of themselves and their situation. Such understanding, I think, is freeing and relieving, enabling of clearer and more thoughtful decisions and choices. I work with people who wish to sort out a few issues before moving on into their lives, or who feel they have serious and long-standing matters they would like to think about. These will include depression, anxiety, recent or childhood trauma, bereavement, and illness as well as children's and adolescent issues. Sometimes people may be concerned about repeating patterns, arguments that keep recurring, or may have a vague idea that something is wrong and cannot pinpoint what. Other may feel deeply conflicted... all suggesting that there is something beyond conscious awareness going on.
Issues relating to relationship breakdown may, of course, include children and adolescents. Children may be party to their parents difficulties, and need some time and space to sort out their thoughts about their parents' marital difficulties, and possibly, separation and/or divorce. It is a complex time for all members of the family, both immediate and extended.
